The surrounding regions of the north-west Iranian city Hamadan is one of the most productive rug weaving areas in Iran. In each of the many villages (more than 600), unique rugs in a heavy quality with colourful, charming and primitive motifs are manufactured in a variety of sizes and designs. The Hamadan area is mainly turkmenian and the rugs are handknotted using the Turkish knotting technique, i.e. ghiordis.
